Market Spotlight: Arcadia

Picture
One of the benefits of my job is seeing so many different houses in different areas. They all have their pros & cons & we all know the perfect house doesn't exist, but after walking the Arcadia market recently...well these 3 are pretty close.
Picture
This first one comes with a showstopper of a kitchen. & a backyard space for hosting. The investor that gutted this spared no expense with Viking appliances & the marble. Can we talk about the marble?!? It is more amazing in person. Take the full tour here.

This next one, also totally redone has a great floorplan & is loaded with charm. The master bathroom has a barn door, and all the latest fixtures. Meanwhile, not only is there a pool out back, but a tree swing too. I'm over here waiting for my trees to be big enough for a tree swing. Take the full tour here.

This beauty has swoon worthy outdoor living space, amazing beams on the interior & is in the Hopi school district, a major win. Plus you can ride your bike to my favorite place, LGO. Make sure you get the English muffins to take home with you. Take the full tour here.

Navy Office Inspiration

Picture
If you saw my stories on Instagram today, you know I've got my home office on the brain. When we bought this house, we knew if we ever added another baby, it would take a bit of juggling to make bedroom arrangements work. So now, here we are...juggling.

My office is currently in our 4th bedroom & I've loved it. It has a huge window that overlooks the pool & playground area of our backyard, which allows me to be home & working while my kids are out playing. It's been so enjoyable these last few months with the beautiful weather to have the window flung open & the kids in & out of the pool all while I'm in my office. As far as work life balance goes...it's been pretty ideal. I think I'll really like the new space too, once we get it completed -- check my stories on IG for a quick glimpse inside the small renovation.

For now, I'm gathering some inspiration images to get my wheels turning. I'm obviously still color crushing pretty hard on navy.
Picture
If I could figure a way to incorporate a ladder, you know I would. And while this room isn't navy, what I'm pondering is the built in being painted the same color as the wainscoating down there under the window. Scratching my head wondering if I want to keep it white or paint it...
Picture
I love the artwork hung on the bookshelves...only question is if I want to give up that much book shelf space?! Not to mention that top row of books with their spines flipped. Yes please.
Picture
Desk chair. Lighting. Shelving space & furniture layout.

Since all our bedrooms will be taken with kiddos here soon, I'm debating putting in a sofa sleeper into this room for the occasional guest. I just wonder if anyone has ever enjoyed a night's sleep on a sofa sleeper? Is it just better to have a really great, tall air mattress? I'm not a huge fan of those either, so that feels like a lose/lose decision as well. Please share if you have a great sofa sleeper!

dress, shoes similar here & here, sunnies
A random list of all the things currently going on around here...obviously, there are some big things coming our way before the end of the year.

LOVING:
Cool evenings. They are sure to go away soon & I can't help but soak up evenings spent outside. We typically eat dinner outside each night & it allows for prolonged time together. The kids will typically throw on their bathing suits, if they didn't already have them on & jump in for a quick dip. I'll find myself on a lounge with a book or just watching them. We all enjoy this time to unwind before it gets too hot.

DREAMING:
Summer vacations. We are behind in planning because, well...we've been planning for other things. But I can't wait to pack up the kids for a couple of adventures this summer. Where are your favorite spots?

WEARING:
This dress from Loft is God's gift to pregnant women. I can't tell you enough how much I love it or how unbelievably soft it is.

READING:
Just finished The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy -- cute, easy, poolside read. Just started Essentialism & know it was a divine send. Thanks to my friend Laurel for recommending it. It's all about doing less but better.

WATCHING:
Just finished the second season of Poldark. I'm obsessed. Have you watched? If so, we must discuss.

Picture
WORKING ON:
Drinking water. This was never my strong point, but with the perfect cup, I'm guzzling more than ever.

LISTENING TO:
How I Built This podcast. Lots of fun business success stories that really have a lot of twists & turns & unexpected challenges throughout. I love hearing the back story of companies like Southwest & Spanx. Spanx especially had me laughing out loud at some parts.

THINKING ABOUT:
Baby number 4. I still can't wrap my head around it. I literally have nothing baby related. No crib, no stroller, nothing. I have no idea what we've got ourselves back into, but its sure to be an adventure.

WISHING:
It wasn't already so hot. We already hit 100 this week & I feel like there is no looking back now. Alas, I just checked my weather app & we have a couple days in the 80's this week. You have no idea how much that excites me.

DOING:
Making room for baby. We are going to have to re-arrange a good portion of our house to make room for one more. A few construction projects in the works.

NEEDING:
A nap. It rarely happens, but man, 15 minutes is game changer.

PLANNING:
A last minute birthday party for a soon to be 8-year-old. This would have really stressed my 28 year-old self out...now, it's like, "cool, what are we doing? Let me send a quick text to 5 of your friends." I like this version so much better.
Picture
SINGING:
I'm loving all of Grace VanderWall's music right now. Have you heard of her? She was the cute 15-year-old girl on America's Got Talent. I love her song Gossip Girl. Give it a listen & tell me she isn't spot on. Plus, I like her album cover & think it would make super cool artwork in a child's room.

EATING:
Nothing. Food has been an issue this pregnancy. I was just telling Scot how frustrated I was that I don't enjoy eating. If you know me, you know that I really enjoy eating. I'm definitely a happier person if I know I've got a good meal in front of me. Alas, while I eat each meal, regardless of what it is or how much I used to enjoy it...now it's just all bleh.
Picture
ENJOYING:
Afternoons by the pool. When my kids are in the pool, I have to stop what I'm dong to watch them. It's a good break. Clears my mind, gives me a chance to read & enjoy their fun with them.

EXCITED ABOUT:
Some fun real estate projects in the works. Stay tuned, but for now, my lips are sealed.

TRYING TO:
Keep working out through this pregnancy. I was on such a good routine & schedule, making it to the gym a solid 4 days a week. Then I got sick. Then I thought I was going to miscarry and sooo, well the gym fell to the bottom of the list. Working my way back because I know it will make the delivery & recovery a million times better.

SHOPPING FOR:
Maternity clothes. Barf. I can't believe I just typed those words. I've got to believe they've come a long way in 5 years but my mom and I were at the mall recently & passed a Motherhood Maternity & I had a mild panic. Honestly, I don't think I've been in that store since my oldest because every rookie starts there right? The thought of maternity clothes or figuring out what fits, not too excited about.

One Nightstand, 3 Ways

One Nightstand, 3 Ways

Picture
Our bedroom is slowing still coming along. With the addition of wall sconces from Lamps Plus, I was motivated to get our nightstands in order. We've had our black nightstands for years & while you could convince me to change them, I still like them enough to instead just give them a little update with brass knobs. I found these round, straight edge knobs in Target, of all places. I'm not sure why it surprised me, but they were just what I didn't know I was looking for, so I snatched them right up. I love when that happens.

While I love the knobs, the light sconces were an even better idea. I didn't realize how much of my night stand real estate was being taken up by the lamp! I tend to be a hoarder of books on my nightstand, so getting the light source off the top, was a bit game changer for me, not only that, but they have dimmer switches. Perhaps not a big deal for most, but seeing as how I'm a hoarder of books, it also means I tend to read later into the night than perhaps I should. You can bet its annoyed that husband of mine on more than one occasion. He might have been more excited about that dimmer than me, but its definitely come in handy!

I spent the day yesterday cleaning off my current mess of a nightstand & today, I've got one nightstand, 3 ways for you. Mine final one, ended up being a medley of the 3, but let me know which you like best. The first one, up top, is super clean & includes a basket -- good if you too, are a hoarder of books or other odds & ends. It will allow you to continue with that habit, but hide it from the world.

Have you visited Jenny's Print Shop? If not, you need to head over pronto! Lots of amazing artwork that you can download & print to any size you wish. I printed this floral masterpiece at Costco to a 20x30. It definitely packs a punch & love it. Going back to my plant lady roots, I added some garden greenery pulled from my grapefruit tree & some fresh flowers from a local market.
Picture
My sister, Baby Love Photos, is a talented photographer, as such, I have a TON of awesome images of my kids & family. I love using them throughout my house as art pieces. This is a favorite of my husband and only daughter...you can bet she's got him wrapped around her finger. Still have all my books, but I switched them so that the spines (which were all different colors) weren't facing out. Visually its more appealing when they match, and the book pages add a little texture. Add a candle + some fresh flowers & your set.

I'm Becoming a Plant Lady

I'm becoming a Plant Lady

Picture
It seems every time I'm out and about I come home with a new plant or seed to add to my growing collection of greens. I am certifiably becoming a plant lady and I'm not even sad about it. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'm going to add more! My latest finds came from Trader Joe's & I'm hoping they thrive in their new environments.

So how can you add more greens to your home? First, start gathering containers. Very few of these containers are made specificilaly to hold plants, but if I like them & think they'll work, they make the cut. That striped bowl up there was actually a wedding gift from long ago that never made the cut on the buffet line, but I found I love it housing a artificial plant. It adds a bright pop anyway it finds a home. The ranculas are in a pink jar I found in the Target dollar section...it has a cute gold handle to it as well. The others are all pieces I collected over the years.

When it comes to the actual plants, I've had the most success with succulents -- they seem to do well in our long, dry summers & I've managed to keep that big 'elephant ear' alive for over 2 years! A major win in my book. It really thrives in the shade & can go a week without water & bounce right back. This past month I planted a few flower seeds in some outside pots & those are springing up as well. My 5-year-old loves to help plant, water & watch these ones grow. I'm hoping for the same success with my basil seeds. I was thinking I was going to have it grow right on my kitchen counter in that cute gold container...until I had them planted & then looked at the sun requiements. Oops. It's now sitting on my outside table since it needs so much sun. I'm still learning over here.

My favorite greens probably come from garden clippings. Whether bougainvillea or roses or other greenery, I love clipping a few things & making a quick arrangement to bringten up the table. It always seems to be a good break for me to get outside & work with my hands.

Next step will be adding some more significant greens. I've looked at beloved fiddle fig trees & always shied away knowing I'd be so sad if I couldn't keep it alive and thriving. But I think my confidence may be ready to take it on. I'll keep you posted as my collection grows.

Hi, I'm Amy. When I'm not scouring the valley for the perfect new house, you can usually find me in the kitchen with a gaggle of kids. Chips, salsa and a Diet Coke are usually in hand.
